the big chill

Saturday.
Beautiful sunshine, a bitterly cold north wind, and a warning that winter weather was on the way.
We stayed inside Saturday afternoon and baked strawberry cookies.  Grace and Carter worked diligently to decorate each and every cookie.
Sprinkles, coconut, chocolate chips,
dinosaurs, teddy bears,
we even decorated a few with snowflakes, hoping we might get lucky with some snow Sunday morning.
Sunday, we woke up to an extremely chilly 28 degrees, but no snow.

Ray and Carter had a birthday party, so Grace and I went to lunch, then shopped for swimsuits.  Yes, it was freezing outside, but everyone knows if you want a good suit you have to buy it in February.  All of the good suits are long gone by Spring Break.

We found the perfect suits, and as we walked out to the car, we were bombarded by what the weather man would call a "wintry mix."  Mostly ice, with a few flakes mixed it.

Grace was thrilled and I was enjoying the rare sound of tiny ice pelting my car.

By the time we got home, the storm had changed from mostly ice to mostly snow.
If you look carefully, you can see a few flakes in the greenest parts of the picture above.
Even though our snow only lasted a few seconds, Grace was determined to make the most of it.
We even had some "accumulation."
