our newest additions - ryan gosling and bruce the goose

Yesterday, we got ready for our goslings to hatch. Even though they were still in their shells last night, they had lots to say. Listen...

The six chickens we hatched on Thanksgiving Day were eagerly anticipating the arrival of new friends.
We warmed up the goose bed and waited...
Finally, at 2am, Ryan hatched on his own.  He was still wet and crinkled when I moved him to the goose bed.
I set my alarm for 3:30 to check on Bruce, and got to watch him hatch.
Bruce's little neck was turned the wrong way inside of his egg, so I had to help him a tiny bit, but once he was out of his shell he was fine.
Ryan and Bruce.
This morning the guys had fluffed up and looked more like little geese.
We're all so happy to have soft, cuddly baby geese again.
They're both incredibly sweet but already have distinctly different personalities.
For instance, Ryan was ok with the santa hat, Bruce wanted nothing to do with it.

** Sunday morning Update - Ryan and Bruce graduated from their baby bed to the big cage.  The week-old chickens are all about pecking order and tried to show the baby geese who was on top.  Little do they know the small, still wobbly geese will be twice their size and running the show in a matter of days.

LOL: they are adorable as always. I should have texted you; I was up at 3:00 a.m. until around 4:30 too to check horses and see if they needed blankets!
